APC Going Into Boko Haram Stronghold

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Borno chapter, on Friday said the party would consider the extension of the ongoing membership registration to ensure wide coverage in the state.
Sen. Kaka Yale, the Interim Chairman of the party, said this while addressing newsmen in Maiduguri. Yale said the extension might be necessitated by the delay in the beginning of the exercise in the state.
He, however, said that the exercise was successfully taking place in spite of the delay.
“This is mainly due to late inauguration of the state interim management committee and the training of the registration officials.
“Actually, we might be forced to seek for an extension from the national headquarters to capture all our members, especially due to our peculiar situation.”
Yale said the prevailing security challenges in the state would not affect the conduct of the exercise.

‘Why I Think The Gay Community Should Come Out’ by Seun Kuti

I’m writing to condemn the recent anti-gay bill signed into law by our President Jonathan Goodluck.
This law – which contains penalties of up to 14 years in prison for anyone in a same-sex marriage or civil union, 10 years for anyone who attends a same-sex wedding, 10 years for anyone involved with an LGBT organization, and even 10 years for anyone who shows affection for someone of the same sex – should be cast out.
Since the law was passed, police across Nigeria have begun arresting and torturing dozens of our fellow citizens suspected of being gay.
Don’t forget that in some of our states, if you are found guilty of being gay, you could be stoned to death. First of all, this law was unnecessary. There is not space in the existing constitution for gay marriage.
Our constitution is very definitive of marriage as a union between man and woman. I see the signing in of this law for what it was: a cheap shot by an under-achieving government to discriminate against people because they are different.
The president of Nigeria has a PhD, so he should understand better than most the implications of the law. Even if he couldn’t stop the senate from passing the bill, he had the power to delay signing it as a way of protecting the gay community.
The President has had the Petroleum Industry Bill in front of him for years, and he and our senators have stalled on the bill calling for harsher punishment for corruption. Meanwhile, Nigeria’s senate has just sanctioned pedophilia in our constitution (girls that are as young as 9 years old can continue to be married in if they are “physically developed enough” according to their parents or prospective husbands) – so this the ban on homosexuality can hardly be a so-called “moral” issue. This is simply a move for cheap political points. Meanwhile, people’s lives hang in the balance.
Today I am writing this not as a fight for “gay rights”, I am fighting for all rights. People should be allowed to express themselves freely and this includes their sexuality. I believe all gay people should come out and organize openly. I expect that society should allow them live their lives as they please. It’s not a cultural thing – it’s a sexual thing.
I have even heard people say it’s Western culture imposed on us and if the West doesn’t recognize polygamy we should not accept homosexuality. This is the kind of scary ignorance that this kind of law will foster. (I can say for a fact that the constitution of Nigeria does not recognize polygamy.
We have customary laws that are non-binding, but our secular courts and national constitution does not allow polygamy even though it’s “our culture.”) I believe in education as the answer to any problem and I know this law does not educate positively. It just criminalizes and institutionalizes hate towards the gay community.
Here’s a call to action: I believe the gay community should come out! They need to put love above fear. I also believe that gay people in Africa not just Nigeria who are being targeted like this should put pressure on the West by claiming asylum in their countries. I think we are about to see a new wave of sexual refugees!
Love over fear should be the way forward.

PHOTO: Faces Of Out Of School Nigerian Children,GOD HELP US,

According to United Nations Scientific, Cultural and Educational Organisation (UNESCO) some 10 million Nigerian children are out of school. The country is said to have the worst record in the world.

UNESCO reports, that as of 2011, 57 million children of primary school age and another 69 million children of lower secondary school age were still out of school worldwide.

Nine out of these 10 million children come from the North, the Supervising Minister of Education Nyesom Wike has said during a working visit to Akwa Ibom State.
This unfortunate situation is in the midst of obscene national luxury in which up to 200 individuals are said to own private jets, and cars valued at about N38 million can be found on Nigerian road while some citizens can afford to buy a bottle champagne for N200,000 in a nightclub in Abuja.
These pictures taken within the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and Katsina State, during school hours (between 10am-12pm) at different days reflect the sad situation of children who were busy hawking on streets and in the market or going around while their more privileged colleagues are busy in school.
You can read more about the problem in a UNESCO report on Nigeria here.

REVEALED: 5,000 Thugs Train In Lagos For 2015 Elections

photoIt has been revealed that at least 5,000 youths are currently being trained in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria as political thugs in preparation for the 2015 general elections.
Investigation revealed that the youths were being recruited and trained under the name of FERMA Federal Task Force at the Old Tollgate near 7Up Bottling Company, the former yard of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA.
It was gathered that as some have started training, more youths were still rushing to the place enmasse to get recruited because of the employment conditions.
It was learnt that the youths were not interviewed and were promised to be paid under the federal government salary scale according to their qualifications.
The emergence of the illegal taskforce is creating panic among stakeholders in the state as there are fears that the youths were being trained by the leading opposition party to destabilise Lagos and other southwest states during next year’s general elections. More worrisome is the fact that the taskforce is not backed by any law or act setting it up.
Sources said the youths will undergo intensive training somewhere in Badagry  and they will  then be  drafted to all southwest states under the guise of maintaining and protecting Federal Government roads.
There are allegations that the youths will be used to create mayhem in the zone to enable the PDP win all the southwest states during the forthcoming elections.
A lady that has been recruited told P.M.NEWS in confidence that they were told that over 5,000 youths will be drafted to the southwest zone for the 2015 general elections. She said they were told that after the recruitment exercise, they would be taken to Badagry for intensive training.
A top PDP chieftain in the southwest zone was alleged to be involved in the recruitment and training of the youths.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the first aim of the taskforce is to drive officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management, LASTMA, out of the federal roads in Lagos and take over activities of the traffic officers. The new taskforce  would be playing the same role with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC. While FRSC is backed by law, the group will not be backed by any federal law or be affiliated to any agency of government.
FERMA, however, disowned the illegal taskfoce, saying it has no hand in any group operating under the name of FERMA Federal Task Force and carrying out recruitment and paramilitary training for youths in Lagos.

Registration Exercise: APC Resorts To Door To Door Mobilisation

photoThe All Progressives Congress, APC, in Sokoto State has resorted to house-to-house mobilisation campaign in its drive for membership.

Alhaji Aminu Sokoto, member of Registration Committee of the party, said that the party would do everything humanly possible to ensure all its members acquired the party’s card to advance its interest.
He said the committee was working together with the interim committee chairmen of the party in the 23 local government areas of the state to ensure massive registration at the grassroots level.
“We will do all that we can to reach out to our teeming supporters to get registered for the wellbeing of our party,” he said.
He explained that the exercise remained the only option needed to sustain the “exemplary leadership” of Gov. Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto State.
Sokoto also called on the party’s leadership across the state to promote political tolerance and understanding by ensuring peaceful conduct of the exercisse.
He said “the APC-led administration would continue to carry the people along towards implementation of its policies and programmes that would enhance the living status of the people”.
“Our people have sense of belonging in the last six years of Wamakko’s administration as capital projects that had direct bearing on the lives of our people were implemented,” he said.
He expressed optimism that supporters of the party would actively participate in the ongoing exercise.(NAN)

Importation Into Nigeria Just Got Easier

Many years ago, importation of goods into Nigeria was seen as a difficult task and the reasons were not farfetched. The process of importing things into the country was filled with so many bottlenecks and bureaucratic red tapes.

Then gradually, things started to take a turn for good and those in the importation business started noticing positive development. Despite the improvement, there were still many issues to resolve.
photo

Fortunately, the Federal Ministry of Finance recently released the New Import Guidelines, Procedures and Documentation Requirements, which now gives the Nigeria Customs Service the sole responsibility of Destination Inspection, which is inspecting goods at the port of entry into Nigeria.

The implication of this new process is designed to be easier and more efficient for importers and has taken effect from December 1, 2013.

With this new process in place, importers or their agents will be able to start clearing their goods before they even arrive in Nigeria.

What makes this process quick is the completion of the (PAAR), the Pre-Arrival Assessment Report, which now takes only 6 hours, yes 6 hours, rather than 6 days as was the case before.
And why is PAAR so easy to complete?  Because the Nigeria Customs Service has simplified its processes, simple enough for just about anybody to get on board. all ways visit www.lasgidisnews.blogspot.com
